COLUMBIA GORGE

Wine Region

The Columbia River Gorge has been coined "A world of wind in forty miles" and is one of the most diverse growing regions in the world. The west side of the gorge has become world famous for varieties such as Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir. The east side, which receives significantly less rainfall and more hot days is able to perfectly ripen varieties such as Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel.

Klickitat County is the largest grape growing county north of California and is the only county in the United States to boast three government recognized appellations. The Columbia Valley Appellation was established in the early eighties, followed the Columbia Gorge Appellation, and most recently, the Horse Heaven Hills Appellation.

The Gorge offers dozens of wineries, each with a unique line-up of wines and tasting room experience.
